Commencing in the 1950s as an earthworks and civil construction company under Henry and Norm Lee,  Australian Country Choice (ACC), formed in 1960, has grown into a booming beef business under the visionary and humble leadership of Trevor Lee.

Today, the business is running up to 300,000 head of cattle across 40 properties, covering 2.4 million hectares with a state-of-the-art meat processing centre at Cannon Hill capable of handling 400,000 head each year (representing 90 million kilos). ACC’s ‘retail ready’, value adding, processing facility is the largest and the most modern in Australia enabling more than 50 million kilos of fresh meat products to be delivered each year.

Now, in its third generation, ACC is today the world’s largest family-owned vertically integrated cattle and beef supply chain organisation. Feedlots were identified by Trevor in his jackerooing days to be the indispensable element in building vertical integration to ensure a reliable supply of market-ready cattle meeting consistent specifications. The feedlots capacity of 70,000 cattle makes this aspect of the ACC business one of the largest of its kind in Australia.

David Foote, one of the most knowledgeable cattlemen in Australia, and until recently company CEO, has made a major contribution since he joined Trevor in 1999 when there was only one cattle property. The formidable combination of David’s operational excellence and Trevor’s “over the horizon leadership” has driven the extraordinary growth of the business over the last two decades.

Other major contributions to ACC’s success are its demonstrated commitment to ethical trading, achieving industry best practice in environmental sustainability and animal welfare. As a caring and respected employer of around 1,500 workers, safety in the workplace, loyalty, and personal responsibility are long-standing core company values.

Having recently ended its 46-year partnership with Coles, ACC looks to the future with a new strategic vision under which 40% of output will be targeted for export, 40% for Woolworths under a new partnership agreement and 20% to be processed, packed and marketed under ACC’s own brands.

ACC is one of Australia’s top 20 private landholders and one of Australia’s largest family-owned companies. With Anthony Lee now having assumed the CEO role, Michael Lee, a director and senior company executive, together with the continuing major contributions of Trevor Lee, Kery Craig-Lee, and David Foote, ACC is positioned to continue thriving as an outstanding, third generation Queensland and Australian family business.
