Madeleine King and Nadia Buick were awarded the fellowship for their project High Street Histories: Queensland’s fashion business leaders at the 2014 Queensland Memory Awards ceremony.

High Street Histories will examine the history of fashion businesses in Queensland. Mapping approximately 12 key sites of fashion retail, manufacture and other leading businesses, the project will utilise a combination of primary source material, published histories and images. High Street Histories aims to link these key sites to the communities around them, the social dimensions and also to Queensland’s economy at large.

Designers such as Janet Walker, Olive Ashworth, Paula Stafford and Gwen Gillam will feature in the project, as will influential Queensland retailers Mathers. Finneys, Oglivies, Rothwells and Curzons.
